Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Elvis Vers is still missing. The police in Orkney are requesting the community’s assistance in locating Vers (53), who resides in Orkney. He was last seen by fellow mine employees early on May 2, when they were on duty and went down the mine shaft. Upon reporting off duty, they noticed that Vers was not amongst them and reported it to their supervisor. A search was conducted at the mine and surrounding areas without success.

Lentswe, Ventersdorp - The local community health centre is asking for assistance in locating the family of Jan Hendrik Erasmus (58). He is deceased and was homeless in Ventersdorp, therefore the facility has no address to refer to. Unconfirmed reports say Erasmus is from Rustenburg and he was also living on the streets. When still alive, he unfortunately refused all attempts to give information about his family or origins. Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A woman was killed and buried in a shallow grave in a shack. The motive for the killing is unknown. Lebogang Molutsi was arrested for this gruesome deed on October 22 and appeared in the local magistrate’s court on October 24 on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. According to Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, he was arrested by members of Tactical Response Team (TRT) after the murder of Rachel Manone (49). “They initially questioned a person of interest in connection with a missing woman.
Running world’s deepest marathon
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Eddie Makhetha, a member of the local marathon club, travelled to Sweden to participate in one of the world’s most unique marathons - it is run underground.
Some 55 runners lined up on Saturday October 25 for an extraordinary challenge: to run the deepest marathon ever run. Makhetha was one of five South African mining professionals who took part. Covering 42.2km within the Garpenberg Zinc Mine in Sweden, they descended to a staggering depth of 1 120 metres below sea level. No one attempted a marathon at this depth before. Participants endured temperatures of up to 30°C, in total silence and ran in complete darkness with only their head torches for light.
Tragedy in Orkney
Lentswe, Orkney - The two men who died last week trying to open up a blocked sewer line in Orkney, were identified as Sammy Mangaleso Pule and Mojalefa Piet Medupe (38). They were overpowered by methane gas while trying to clear a blocked manhole in Shakespeare Street on Wednesday October 15. Matlosana Fire and Rescue were called to the scene to retrieve their bodies. According to Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, a third man who noticed they were in trouble and tried to rescue them, were also overpowered by the toxic fumes and rescued by his father. He was hospitalised after the incident.
