Lentswe, Kanana - The hunt is on for the killers of Const Mojalefa Mgwebi who was murdered in Kanana over the weekend. Mgwebi’s lifeless body was found inside his vehicle by neighbours on Sunday morning November 24. They alerted the police. He was stationed at Jouberton and was found with gunshot wounds on his upper body. He was off duty. “According to information, he was last seen by his cousins whom he dropped off at their houses after attending a family gathering in Klerksdorp on Saturday November 23. “The motive for the incident is unknown. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation is investigating,” said Col Amanda Funani, police spokesperson.
Zama-zamas resurfacing slowly
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - It is a slow process, but progress is being made in efforts to help illegal miners resurface. The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management disclosed this week that 55 zama-zamas have resurfaced since last week Monday.
Three caught with stolen copper cables
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Three men, all illegal foreigners, were caught stealing copper cable next to the railway line outside Klerksdorp over the past weekend. The threesome, a Zimbabwean, Lesotho and Mozambican nationals shared a holding cell with a Nigerian drug dealer that was arrested the previous night (November 22) for being in possession of drugs.
Clean up at taxi rank
Lentswe Klerksdorp - The taxi rank, next to the N12, turned into an ugly and muddled site with illegal vendors and structures. This week, the Matlosana Municipality rounded up some help from SAPS and tore down and removed most illegal structures. “Despite repeat warnings, vendors refused to remove the structures, which were not only illegal but also contributed to the deterioration of the town’s cleanliness and aesthetic appeal,’’ said Ntswaki Makgetha, municipal spokesperson.
NW provincial fiscal framework adjusted by R435 million
Lentswe, Mafikeng - The MEC for Finance Kenetswe Mosenogi announced that the 2024/25 provincial fiscal framework has been adjusted upwards by R435 million from R53.700 billion to R54.135 billion. No additional funds were received from the National government except approved rollover of unspent funds from the preceding financial year.
