  • Serious sewerage problems in Stilfontein

Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - The smell of raw sewerage all over town is not only nauseating but the impact the overflowing sewer drains have on the environment and on residents’ health needs to be addressed.

Sewerage problems in Stilfontein are nothing new, but what irks residents most is that nothing seems to be done about it. In Umgeni Street, people are fuming about a gaping trench in the street that was dug to replace a sewer pipe after it collapsed. Resident Barbara Botha is very vocal about the situation after the construction company stopped their work at the site because Matlosana’s Municipal Manager did not sign off on the order. “I cannot blame them for stopping the work, because they need to get paid. I just do not understand why the MM cannot give the go-ahead for the work. In the meantime, all the sewerage gets pumped in storm water drains that ends up in the river.’’

  • Bestiality case postponed

Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - A Stilfontein man pleaded guilty on charges of bestiality in terms of the Animal Protection Act last week.

Philip von Furstenberg Boardman was arrested in November last year. He has been detained since and will be in court again on Thursday May 2 for sentencing.

Animal lovers reacted in shock to the news of the arrest of the middle aged man who filmed himself raping his dogs. The camera footage was reported to the animal shelter who immediately took steps to remove the animals from the property. Boardman fled his home when the police pitched and was later lured to the animal shelter to “strike a deal’’.

He was arrested at the shelter where the police waited for him.

The dogs, four small cross breed dogs, were placed in the care of the shelter. Three of them have been adopted into loving families while one of the dogs did not recover from the ordeal and died. The shelter’s Suzette Kotze is set to give evidence in the pre-sentencing trial. She told Klerksdorp Record that this was the worst case of animal abuse she encountered in her career.
