We walked away with the NW Media Award over the weekend as the province’s top community newspaper. Our sister papers, Rustenburg Herald and The Mail were among the nominees.
This glittering event was held at the Rustenburg Civic Centre on Friday December 5. The event recognises excellence in journalism, broadcasting, communication and digital media.
SABC journalist Jabu Oa Afrika won both the Poloko Tau Investigative News Story of the Year and Journalist of the Year awards. The Communicator of the Year award went to Boitumelo Boweni from the Department of Social Development in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, with Dikgang Tsa Rona, also from the Department of Social Development in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, winning Newsletter of the Year. Letlhogonolo Moleah of the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality won Photographer of the Year.
NWU- FM was named Community Radio Station of the Year. Jane Nku of Vaaltar FM won Newsreader of the Year in the main category, while Bahedile Selogilwe of Motsweding FM won the sub-category. MDN TV won Online Media House of the Year. Bonolo “Miss Faith” Monaisa of NWU FM won Radio Presenter of the Year in the main category, while Sweetness Motsepe of You FM won the sub-category. Peculiar Ntehelang of NWU FM won Radio Producer of the Year.
The awards were made possible through the support of the NWU. The founder of the awards, Ananias Ndlovu, thanked the university for its continued commitment to media development. Louis Jacobs on behalf of the NWU said the university remains committed to uplifting the media sector.
