Tjaart “Piston” Kruger het bekendheid verwerf toe hy in Augustus 2022 vir Quintus Horn van Centurion in Sasolburg in ‘n “slapfighting”-kompetisie met een klap planke toe gestuur het. Sedertdien neem hy nog aan die nuwe sport deel en gaan binnekort in Las Vegas deelneem. Die prysgeld in Nevada is $10 000 (R183 000) ‘n klap en hy kan $40 000 (R732 000) huis toe bring. Dit is drie klappe en ‘n bonus van $10 000.

Members of the Stilfontein kickboxing club participated in the recent South African Kickboxing Championships. Michelle Morell achieved a gold medal in points fighting and light continious fighting, Princess Botlhoko achieved gold medal in points fighting and gold medal in light continious fighting, Ivan Murray achieved a gold medal in Kicklight fighting and a silver medal in light continuous fighting, Biané Kriel achieved a gold medal in kicklight fighting and silver medal in continuous fighting and Shando van Niekerk achieved a fourth place in points fighting.

Members of the local Korean Martial Arts Club Tang Soo Do in Klerksdorp competed in the 2024 Gauteng Korean Martial Arts Championship held in Pretoria. These students are all members of the North West Black Belt Academy. Master Louise Viviers (instructor), Theresa Stapelberg (gold, three silver and one bronze), Nicholas Caisley (two silver and a bronze), Logan Erasmus (gold, silver and bronze) and Aobakwe Due (silver) and (front) Jaxx Potgieter (gold and three bronze). Ashadiya Ashraf (three gold and a silver) and Rushinda Ashraf (three gold) also did well.

 

Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - Klerksdorp athlete Liezel Gouws is no stranger to podiums, and on Friday May 17, her affinity for finishing races with a medal around her neck was on full display when she won bronze at the 2024 Para Athletics World Championships in Kobe, Japan. 

Liezel finished third in the women’s 400m T37 race, and in doing so she also claimed South Africa’s first medal at the championships. In addition, she finished fifth in her long jump event.
