Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The disability community in Matlosana has been largely overlooked and underserved, despite the good intentions of the government and the mayor’s office. This is the opinion of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Disability District Forum Secretary, Tlwaelo Witkoei. According to him, the community faces a lack of coordination, communication, and resources that has hindered meaningful engagement and participation.

“While the mayor’s office has made efforts to address the needs of the disability community in Matlosana, their efforts have often been limited and disorganized. With so many different activities and initiatives competing for the Mayor’s attention, it has been difficult to focus on the specific needs of the disability community.

“This has resulted in a situation where many people with disabilities feel excluded and overlooked,” he said.

He claims the community is diverse and vibrant, with a variety of organizations and individuals working to advocate for the rights and needs of people with disabilities. Despite their best efforts, the disability community has faced many challenges in engaging with the government and accessing resources. One of the biggest issues has been the lack of coordination and communication between the various departments and agencies involved.

“To improve the situation, it is essential for the government and the disability community to work together more closely. By working together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for people with disabilities in Matlosana. For people with disabilities in Matlosana, the lack of support and services has had a profound impact on their daily lives. Many people face challenges in accessing healthcare, education, employment, and other basic necessities. This has led to feelings of frustration, isolation, and even hopelessness for many. But despite these challenges, people with disabilities in Matlosana have shown great resilience and determination to improve their situation.”

The low level of service and support has had a ripple effect throughout the entire district. Matlosana is the largest municipality within the district, and its policies and initiatives can have a significant impact on the rest of the area.

“If Matlosana can improve its services and support for people with disabilities, it could set an example for the rest of the district to follow. This could lead to improved quality of life for people with disabilities across the entire region.”
