Lentswe, Stilfontein - A rapist was hiding in Taung for more than a year. He returned to the scene of the crime and that is where police nabbed him.
The Stilfontein Regional Court handed down a life term imprisonment to Rebaone Victor Moremong (26) for raping a 30-year-old woman. The judgement was made on October 24.
Missing man found in mortuary
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A photograph of Pule Stephen Mashilo was published in last week’s Lentswe. He was reported missing. He has been found - unfortunately as deceased at the Tshepong Hospital mortuary. A culpable homicide case was opened at the Orkney Police Station, as he died from a hit and run accident. Contact Sgt Mngadi on 082 415 9527 if you have any information which may help find the culprit. Mashilo’s funeral will take place at 07:00 on Saturday November 9, at house Y12 Jouberton.
Sassa payments this week
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Sassa grant payments are taking place this week.
The Older person’s grants were paid on Tuesday November 5 and the disability grants on Wednesday November 6. The children’s grants will be paid on Thursday November 7. According to Sassa, there is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until needed.
Three killed after vehicle ploughs into pedestrians
Lentswe, Orkney - The police suspect the driver of the Toyota Hilux that ploughed into a group of pedestrians on the Klerksdorp/Orkney road killing three, and injuring a fourth, fell asleep behind the wheel.
The fifty year old man and three passengers were travelling from the Eastern Cape on their way to Boitekong in Rustenburg when disaster struck shortly before 07:00 on Tuesday October 29. They were not injured.
Fraud in nutrition program exposed
Lentswe, Leeudoringstad - Mary Ntombi Mielies (36), former School Governing Body treasurer and Masilonyana Kenneth Selebalo (51), former administrative clerk at Thakadu Primary School appeared in the Leeudoringstad Magistrates’ Court last week facing 88 counts of theft.
