Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The 97th Comrades Marathon will take place on Sunday June 9. The Klerksdorp marathon club will be represented by a whopping 55 athletes who qualified and committed to this year’s marathon. Included in this number are 19 novices - attempting the race for the very first time. The Comrades will be run from Durban’s city hall all the way up to finish in Pietermaritzburg before 17:30, giving athletes 12 hours to complete the 85km. A total number of 23 000 people will be attempting the race this year.

Lentswe, Potchefstroom - Omphile Makhobosi and Palesa Mphela, members of the NWU’s dance team on the Mahikeng Campus, have been selected to represent SA at the 2024 World Dance Sport Federation World Championship’s Latin U21 competition. The prestigious event will take place on November 16 in Salaspils, Latvia. Prince Gontse Motaung, their head coach and manager, has also been selected as national coach and manager. This selection has earned them Protea colours. Palesa says this achievement is a testament to the power of dreams, hard work and perseverance. She adds that the journey has been tough, but that every drop of sweat, every tear shed, and every ounce of effort has been worth it. “I am grateful to my coach, my teammates and loved ones who have supported and believed in me throughout this journey.”

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge coach Vela Khumalo was pleased with his team’s effort in the DStv Diski Challenge despite finishing fifth in the table. In nine years of Diski Challenge Chiefs are yet to win the league. This season they were promising at some point but lost crucial matches to see their chances fading away.
Chiefs coach Vela Khumalo is hoping the club will do better and try to chase the title next season.
