Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate in the City of Matlosana, led by MMC Wesley Kgang, launched the Kwalata Hiking, Camping, and Spring Festival at Faan Meintjes Nature Reserve.
The festival is a celebration that goes beyond recreation, bringing together community, nature, and economic empowerment, said Ntswaki Makgetha, municipal spokesperson. The event was attended by the North West Tourism Board, the Matlosana Hiking Club, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, EMRS, and hiking enthusiasts from across the region. Delivering the keynote address, Cllr Kgang emphasised the festival’s importance for both the local economy and community well-being.
“Tourism is one of the most powerful tools for local economic development. Events like this festival create opportunities for small businesses, open markets for local products, and showcase the talent and creativity of our people,” said Cllr Kgang.
All hiking participants in the 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km categories were awarded medals in recognition of their achievements.
