Klerksdorp Midweek, Pilanesberg - The famous dance competition, The Battle of the Giants, is taking place this week. It has been renamed to International Dance Organisation (IDO) African Championship: Battle of the Giants. The dance competition will take place until July 3. The South African Body of Dance (SABOD) and International Dance Organisation (IDO) are thrilled to share an extraordinary announcement that promises to redefine the dance landscape in Africa, and introducing the inaugural event, IDO African Championships – Battle of the Giants Dancing event, being hosted at the legendary Sun City resort.
This year’s format is an “Open” championship, and requires no qualifying process, and entries from countries from all around the world have been invited to participate including - Europe, Asia and the America’s.
This year’s event has a total of 360 registered competitors, and 41 dance schools, that have entered from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Hungary.
The world’s most talented dancers will converge and compete at the iconic Superbowl at Sun City.
SA’s top Judges will be officiating at the event including: Performing Arts: Lorcia Cooper Kumalo, South African television and dance icon, Brigitte Reeve Taylor, Tina D’Artnall and International Judge, Sylwana Patlaszynska, from Poland.
Street Dance Judges include: Euhardley Hartzenbrug, Elvina Da Silva, Lee-Shane Booysen, Tichaona Hero Chikdara - from Zimbabwe. Disco Dance Judges include: Senicia Du Toit Breytenbach, Nikki Truter, Elize Cogle, Kyle Behrens and Werner Humpel.
This year’s dance programme and styles includes Modern & Contemporary, Jazz, Acro, AfroFusion, All Styles Battles on July 1; Hip Hop, Breaking, Performing Arts Improvisation, African Solo Champion Qualifying Sections on July 2, as well as the Gala Evening & Parade with the African Solo Champion, Production, Lyrical, Modern & Contemporary, Crews, AfroStyles Battles, and Disco Dance, Disco Freestyle, Disco Show, Hip Hop, Popping, Street Dance Show on July 3.
