Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The 98th Comrades Marathon is in the bag and the winners are famous faces and close to home!
Gerda Steyn won the women’s race and she is a farmer’s daughter from Bothaville! The ever-smiling “blonde assassin” ran most of the race in second place, waiting for the time to strike. She won her fourth Comrades in five hours, 19 minutes. Tete Dijana, a security guard working on the NWU Mahikeng campus, won his third Comrades in a time of five hours, 25 minutes and 28 seconds.
Klerksdorp’s very own Onnalenna Khonkhobe led the race for the first 60 km, when he had to bow out due to cramps.
Dijana took the lead with the Dutch runner Piet Wiersma chasing him. Wiersma won in 2024.
The 100th Comrades Marathon will take place in 2027.
