Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The NewBridge Graduate Institute (NGI) Klerksdorp Campus had a blast facilitating the second phase of its SUSTAIN Growing Through Movement Project at Unie Primary School. This interactive initiative is aimed to encouraging young children in Grade R and RR in the Klerksdorp community to take up sporting acti-vities and healthy outdoor exercise. The project formed part of NGI’s ongoing set of sustainable projects that focus on educational programmes that can be adopted by a school or community and run independently. NGI Sports Management students set up exciting games and obstacles, focused on early childhood movement and exercise.
These activities help coordination and balance, fostering teamwork and a sense of belonging, encouraging young children to get outside and get active.
“The project was more than just any project. It was a reminder of the power of sport and education. Seeing the children’s smile and enjoy themselves, ultimately learning new movement skills, reminded us why we chose this path. As NGI 3rd year and 2nd year Sports Management students, we didn’t just share knowledge we built connections and made a lasting impact on the community and at the school,” said Charmanda le Roux, a third year Sports management student at NGI.
“A big thank you to Sone Hubbard for providing this opportunity to help out and making a difference in our community.’’
Unie Primary School teachers joined the movement sessions, actively ensuring the participation and support of each child. “By supporting the development of children in our community through play based physical education, we are instilling healthy practices by motivating our youth and teachers to go beyond the classroom by participating in outdoor activities that promote movement,’’ Le Roux said.
The NGI Sports Management students really enjoyed the experience of connecting with the kids and having the opportunity to teach them about important motor skills which they have learned on campus.
The kids had a great time interacting and participating in the fun activities and leaning new skills.
The ongoing NGI SUSTAIN projects, continue to foster commitment to sustainable education and community upliftment. By investing in early childhood development, we are helping build a healthier, more active, and connected generation.
