NOORDWESTER - LICHTENBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in North West province has issued a strong condemnation following the arrest of a man accused of brutally stabbing his girlfriend to death in Lichtenburg, within the Ditsobotla Local Municipality. The victim, identified as Ms Sophy Ntsimane, was allegedly murdered by her partner, Othusitse Rajane, in an incident that has highlighted the ongoing scourge of gender-based violence in the region.

According to the EFF’s statement released on Friday, 9 January, Rajane is scheduled to appear before the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court in January for a formal bail hearing.
The party described the killing as a “cold-hearted murder” that underscores the persistent issue of patriarchal relations and gender-based violence, not only in communities but also within homes.
“This horrific and heinous act of crime points to the persistent patriarchal relations, not only in community but also at home(s),” the statement read.
The EFF extended its sincere condolences to Ntsimane’s family, loved ones, and the broader community, noting that she was a well-known community activist.
In a call to action, the EFF urged law enforcement agencies, particularly the National Prosecuting Authority, to vehemently oppose bail for the accused.
The statement emphasised the need for a strong message against perpetrators of femicide, infanticide, rape, abuse, and gender-based violence, stating that such individuals must not enjoy freedom longer, a clear demand for accountability and justice.
