SASSA CONCERNED - Complaints of unlawful deductions on social grants

BRITS POS – BRITS - The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is deeply concerned by the upsurge in what appears to be unlawful deductions by financial service providers targeting social grants beneficiaries.
SASSA has been inundated with enquiries from its beneficiaries, stating that their grant money is consistently being deducted by various insurance companies that they have not signed up for, believing that the Agency is working with these companies.

BRITS POS – POTCHEFSTROOM: 25 August 2025 - The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, welcomes a life sentence handed down by the Brits Magistrates’ Court to a 41-year-old, Sello Solomon Mpete, on Friday, 22 August 2025. Mpete was sentenced for housebreaking with the intent to rape and the rape of the then 13-year-old victim in Segwaelane village near Mooinooi in the early hours of Saturday morning, 13 August 2016. 

Attempted cash in transit robbery on N4

BRITS POS – MAJAKANENG - The police have launched an investigation following an attempted cash in transit robbery on Monday evening, 25 August 2025, on the N4 Bakwena Highway, near Majakaneng village, Mooinooi.
“It is alleged that a silver Mercedes Benz hit the cash in transit van that was travelling to Rustenburg and although the occupants of the Mercedes Benz fired shots towards the cash in transit van, the driver drove into the bushes and arrived at one of the mines in the area, where SSG security officers managed to assist,” says Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, SAPS North West spokesperson.
