Taxpayers pay shocking petrol bill for government’s VIP ‘blue light brigades’

BRITS POS – BRITS - The South African Police Service (SAPS) has spent over R42 million on petrol and diesel over the past six years for its VIP Protection alone, which works out to just over R583,000 per month.
This is according to a recent parliamentary Q&A, in which police minister Bheki Cele outlined the departments’ fuel spending for VIP protection services between 2018 and 2022 and between March 2023 and March 2024.

Two suspects arrested for the murder of Constable Makola

BRITS POS – BRITS - The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Sello Kwena welcomes the arrest of two suspects in connection with the murder of the late Constable Mogoro Clement Makola (31). The victim was shot and killed on Monday evening, 15 April 2024, in Lekgalong village near Marikana outside Brits. 
“The suspects, aged 40 and 44, were arrested in Ramochana, outside Rustenburg on Friday, 26 April, during a Crime Intelligence driven operation by Brits Trio Task Team and Marikana Visible Policing,” says Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, SAPS NW spokesperson, after Brits Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) provided the Investigating Officer with information after one of the suspects was identified through fingerprints.

ILLEGAL MINING EQUIPMENT CONFISCATED

More than 100 suspected undocumented foreign nationals nabbed - BRITS POS – BRITS - An integrated “Vala Umgodi” operation by various units conducted in Tlhatlaganyane village outside Rustenburg last week, resulted in the arrest of 141 suspected undocumented foreigners, mainly from Lesotho and Zimbabwe. 
“The suspects were found and arrested at Tlhatlaganyane village illegal mining site,” says Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, SAPS Northwest spokesperson.
