Time to root out construction Mafia

BRITS POS - BRITS - For a long time, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has been calling on national government to effectively combat the Construction Mafia, which has crippled the construction industry. 
Now, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, has announced that a national summit will be convened to abolish the criminal syndicates. 
The DA welcomes this step as well as Minister Macpherson’s decision to investigate stolen money and failed projects including the Telkom Towers debacle in Tshwane and the R300 million IT theft over a period of 10 years.

Police and role players arrest more than 800 suspects during Operation Shanela

POTCHEFSTROOM: 2 September 2024 - Police in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies and role players continue with weekly High-Density Operation Shanela to prevent and combat crime. A total of 5 454 actions were executed between Wednesday, 28 August 2024 and Sunday, 1 September 2024 and that led to the arrest of 851 suspects for various offences.
The 5 454 actions included amongst others, 11 roadblocks, searching of 167 premises, 2 831 persons, 1 271 vehicles, closing of seven unlicensed liquor premises and inspection of 92 others.
