BRITS POS – ELANDSRAND - On 23 January 2024 Councillor Eugene van der Schyff sent an urgent email to the acting municipal manager of Madibeng Local Municipality about the general problems and challenges in Elandsrand and requested that an urgent response would be appreciated.
The challenges that residents have to contend with on a daily basis and the dangers it poses are:
MADIBENG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY These streetlight poles pose a serious safety risk to residents
BRITS POS – BRITS – Not even a photo with a complaint that was reported of a streetlight pole that could possibly fall over in Elandsrand on Thursday, 15 February got the Madibeng Local Municipality to take any action thus far.
A quick survey was done in Brits and Brits Pos found numerous similar challenges in a small area in Brits town, which pose a risk to residents and road users, especially with the rain and the strong, gusty winds which also saw the dilapidated shade net parking at the Madibeng Municipality end up in Ludorf Street last week after a storm.

Feedback from Pres Ramaphosa’s SONA 2024 - different but interesting
BRITS POS – BRITS – Prof Theo Venter, a political analyst at the University of Johannesburg expects President Cyril Ramaphosa to be back in Parliament to deliver the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) after the election.
The one positive aspect of the speech, he said, is that the ANC clarified it is going for green energy and a just energy initiative focusing on Mpumalanga, which is ironically a model that was very actively pushed by former Eskom CEO, André de Ruyter.
John Steenhuizen, leader of the DA says none of the promises made by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his last five SONA speeches have ever been kept, and not a single piece of pragmatic, workable legislation has been tabled at the National Assembly to realise Ramaphosa’s ‘New Dawn’.
