RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - "Let us keep the pulse beating." This is according to Seabelo Gopane (hailing from Chaneng), who makes it a priority of donating life-giving blood when he travels to Rustenburg. With less than 1% of the South African population serving as regular blood donors, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is calling on the public to make a difference by stepping up and becoming donors.
Every one person that donates, can save up to three lives as donated blood is separated into three components - platelets, plasma and red blood cells.
For those who are afraid of needles, or even if you find the idea of donating a bit daunting, the entire process can be over in approximately 30 minutes - you can even pop round to the donor centre in your lunch hour! Also, less than 2% of donors experience mild effects such as a bit of bruising or dizziness after the fact.
As the expression goes - there is no time like the present! What have you got to lose? Except for a little blood, that is...
