RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Rustenburg consumers seem to be at the sharp end of endless water and electricity problems judged by events, shortages and outages in recent days.
Widespread water interruptions were experienced over large areas of town over the weekend with the latest series of electricity interruptions setting in on Tuesday morning this week. For the past few weeks, hardly a week has gone by without electricity interruptions or water cuts and shortages - with consumers protesting on social media platforms and in letters to the media.

Ms Odirile Madiba - Acting Spokesperson of the Rustenburg Municipality - wasted little time in emphasising that “the whole country is currently going through a water crisis which is also affecting Rustenburg. The two water boards which are supplying water to Rustenburg, notably Magalies Water and Rand Water, regularly alert us about low dam levels, which unfortunately means that we are expected to implement water restrictions.
“The two Boards are also instructed by the Department of Water and Sanitation to lower the water levels, ensuring that there is enough water for other provinces,” Madiba said. Madiba pointed out that both the Executive Mayor and the Municipal Manager have been engaging extensively with other stakeholders as well as the two water boards on how best to deal with the situation.
“As soon as the engagements have been concluded, the municipality will be in a position to elaborate further. Although the municipality communicates with residents regularly, we do however acknowledge that the communication can be improved upon,” she concluded.
