RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The police in Tlhabane are investigating a case of murder following the death of an unidentified man who was allegedly assaulted by members of the community in Lefaragatlhe.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 10 May, at around 07:00, along Boikanyo Road in the Nyeneng section of Lefaragatlhe. Police were alerted to the scene and, upon arrival, found the local Protection Services and the ambulance already in attendance. Paramedics declared the victim deceased on the scene.
The deceased was found half-naked, wearing only a grey T-shirt, mustard-coloured jeans, and black boots. He had sustained multiple injuries, including an open wound on the head, bleeding from the ears and mouth, and several other wounds across his body.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased may have been assaulted by members of the community who suspected him of theft. The motive and full circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
The Acting Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Commissioner, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, strongly condemned the incident and urged members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. “We understand the community’s frustration with crime, but acts of vigilantism are unlawful and will not be tolerated. Anyone with information must report it to the police,” said Brigadier Ntoagae.
Anyone with information that may lead to the identification or arrest of the suspects is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Kgokong of Tlhabane SAPS on 076 837 9819.
