BONUS - RUSTENBURG - South African competitors and vehicle manufacturers participating in the 2024 Dakar Rally from 5 to 19 January in Saudi Arabia, showed why they can compete with the best in the world as they earned and bagged numerous accolades and awards after two formidable weeks and 4 700 kilometres of timed racing from the ancient city of AlUla to the shores of the Red Sea, conquering the daunting dunes of the Empty Quarter.
Entries open for the Tour de PPA
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - Entries are open for the Tour de PPA, taking place on Sunday, 25 February 2024.
This will be the perfect prep to help cyclists gauge their fitness and fine-tune their strategy prior to the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Entry fees vary from R300 to R470. Entries to the Tour de PPA are open to PPA members as well as non-members and is ideal for experienced and average cyclists, as well as newcomers to the sport. E-Bikes and Tandems are welcome to join.
Taxi drivers tackle pothole
With apologies to the South African taxi industry, Rustenburg motorists will agree that taxi drivers are not necessarily the most popular people in the country. But as is often warned - it is dangerous to generalise… Last week (Thursday and Friday) saw this group of taxi drivers and a number of their colleagues taking it upon themselves to in their own time and at their own cost, repair a months old dangerous trench (originally a pothole) in the heavily congested Faisal Mafa Drive between Econo Foods and the Cornerstone Lifestyle Center (new Food Lovers Market) at the Waterfall Mall.

BONUS – RUSTENBURG - On Saturday, 13 January 2024, the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally – the fifth taking place in Saudi Arabia – reached the halfway mark after racing for seven days totalling just over 4 100 kilometres of which 2 300 kilometres were against the clock, competitors reached Riyadh for a well-deserved Rest Day and a quick glimpse to the current standings, shows that the South African competitors and the various SA manufactured vehicles have been producing impressive performances.
