Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - For the first time in its 104 year history, a woman will be in control of the world’s largest gold producer - and she is from Klerksdorp.
Natascha Viljoen grew up in Oudorp, matriculated at KHS in 1987, and went on to study metallurgical engineering at NWU before completing her MBA at UCT.
From those roots, her career took her across South Africa’s mining belt. She rose through the ranks to become CEO of Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) - the world’s largest platinum producer - where she guided operations, growth and sustainability at the very top of the industry.
In 2023, she joined Newmont, the world’s biggest gold mining company, and earlier this year was promoted to President and COO. Newmont is a global giant, worth over R1 trillion (around US$60 billion).
