Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The North West has a new community TV channel and it will be broadcasting from Klerksdorp.

Platinum NW TV switched on their signal this week after a struggle of ten years to get their license. The switch-on took place on Wednesday October 1.

The channel can be viewed with DTT (digital terrestrial television) and DTH (direct to home) set-top boxes and the app should be available later this month. Smart TVs should be able to pick up the channel. They applied for a license in 2015 only to be turned down, re-applied in 2020 and was granted the only license out of 37 applicants.

“Platinum NW TV intends to be at the forefront of film and television development in the province. We are making every effort to ensure that our channel reaches all residents across the province’s four districts and their local municipalities. Community participation will be the cornerstone of our success,” said Jonathan Ramotsei, Chief Executive Officer.

He said the channel will be available on free-to-air platforms, with plans to expand to satellite broadcasting in due course. Viewers who prefer to consume their content from their mobile devises will also get an opportunity to view the channel on Free Vision play app.

“Indigent households are encouraged to apply for set-top boxes, while those with Smart TVs can tune in directly. The channel is also accessible through the Free Vision Play App, which can be downloaded onto any device for instant viewing.”

Platinum North West TV will broadcast limited hours of new content supported by repeats, with more original programming to be added as the channel stabilizes. They will broadcast community-oriented shows and plan to open bureaus in Rustenburg and the capital. Their head office is located in Oudorp.
“The head office will stay in Klerksdorp,” he said.
