Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Lenmed Sunningdale Private Hospital, in collaboration with local healthcare professionals, has officially launched a dedicated Palliative and End-of-Life Care Service, bringing vital, compassionate support to individuals and families facing serious or life-limiting illness in the region.
The launch event, held in July, was hosted at the hospital and led by Dr Adri Oosthuizen, a specialist palliative care medical practitioner with a deep commitment to dignity-focused, patient-centred care.
This new service represents a significant milestone in the delivery of holistic healthcare in Klerksdorp and surrounding communities.
More than a response to end-of-life needs, palliative care is an essential offering that supports patients throughout the course of serious illness helping them manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and make informed decisions aligned with their values.
“Palliative care is not about giving up, it’s about giving patients the chance to live with dignity, comfort, and purpose, even in the most difficult moments. This service is here to walk alongside patients and families, offering medical, emotional and psychological support when they need it most. There is an end to cure but never an end to care,” said Dr Oosthuizen.
Palliative care focuses on:

* Emotional and psychosocial support for both patients and their families;
* Empowered decision-making and advanced care planning;
* Preserving dignity and quality of life at every stage of illness.
The introduction of this service ensures that families in Klerksdorp and surrounding areas now have access to a coordinated, multi-disciplinary support system when they need it most.
