Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The family of the mineworker who disappeared underground at CAPM Tau Leko gold mine are struggling to get closure. Elvis Vers disappeared without a trace on May 2. His brother, Percy, visited the offices of Lentswe and said his sister-in-law is still trying to make peace with his disappearance. It is difficult because they cannot have a funeral as he hasn’t been declared dead. “We have been to the CCMA, High Court in Mmabatho and Labour Court in Johannesburg to get his wife to get executorship as they are married in community of property, but it was unsuccessful. We have contacted a lawyer to help us with this,” he said.

The mine terminated his employment on June 17, and they have paid benefits.

“We are also unhappy as we have received a message from mine management that the meeting we had with them on September 2 was the last meeting about the incident. That means they are ending the search and now consider the case closed.

“The family still has a lot to deal with as my brother is nowhere to be found.”
