Lentswe, Mahikeng - The North West Provincial Government has welcomed the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey figures from Statistics South Africa, which show a two percentage point decline in the province’s unemployment rate for the third quarter of this year. Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi noted that the report indicates the North West successfully created 42 000 jobs between July and September 2025.

“These figures are indicative of an administration hard at work to address the scourge of unemployment and poverty confronting the province,” Premier Mokgosi stated.

The Premier attributes the positive shift to the province’s Growth and Development Strategy, adopted earlier this year, which focuses on economic recovery through infrastructure development, investment, and job creation.

He maintained that while the province “is not out of the woods yet,” the figures are encouraging. Mokgosi also highlighted efforts made to prevent job losses in ferrochrome mines and confirmed that future job creation will be given further impetus by the Provincial Mining Indaba and Investment Conference planned for early next year.

The province’s strategy also includes a forthcoming Jobs Summit aimed at devising concrete strategies for both preserving available employment and creating new jobs across various industries.
