Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The death of two little girls shocked the community after it became known that they bought chips from a local spaza shop hours before their death. Sisters Realeboga Khaje (4) and Mosa Mogomotsi Mekgoe (3) were taken to hospital by their mother after feeling sick. 

According to family members the children bought Simba chips at a local spaza shop. The death of the young girls also caused an outcry on social media with the community demanding action against the owners of the shop.

Lentswe contacted the family on Wednesday September 17. 

According to the family, the girls walked to the shop by themselves where they bought the chips. 

Not long after eating it, they became dizzy and started crying. They had no other symptoms such as diarrhoea or nausea but the mother decided to take them to hospital. 

Both sisters passed away at Tshepong Hospital. The mother did not want to disclose more information. 

According to Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, the police opened an inquest docket for investigation after information was received that the children died after reportedly after eating snacks bought from a tuckshop in Jouberton on Thursday September 11. The cause of death is not known.

“The police are urging the public not to do anything unlawful because of unverified information and to afford the police and other relevant role players time to investigate and determine the cause of death,” he said.

The children’s funeral service will take place at the Baptist Church at 08:00 on Thursday September 18.
