Lentswe, Stilfontein - The police’s Vala Umgodi teams are on a quest to eradicate illegal firearms. Two suspects were arrested in the area with one being linked to a burglary at a local firearm dealer. Ndumiso Sithole was expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrate’s Court this week, after his arrest last week on charges of attempted murder, robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, the members followed up on information regarding an attempted murder and robbery suspect who was spotted in Khuma. “The suspect was  found in possession of a CZ pistol and five rounds of ammunition. This firearm was linked to a burglary committed in December 2023 in Klerksdorp, where more than a hundred firearms were stolen.” In a separate arrest, on Friday August 1, the team acted on information regarding a man who was in possession of a firearm, also in Khuma.

“A Lesotho national, aged 34, was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition. He was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigations revealed that the firearm was reported stolen in Welkom in November 2016. The suspect is also facing a charge of contravention of the Immigration Act. He was due to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday August 4.”
