Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Dr KK Chess Federation will host its first official tournament under new leadership this weekend at Ashton John Private School. The event will be held on Saturday August 23. The opening round begins at 08:00. This is more than a tournament, it marks the beginning of a new chapter. The event showcases the federation’s vision for growth and commitment to raising the standard of chess in the Dr KK district. Ashton John Private School has partnered with this vision by generously providing the venue free of charge, a strong gesture of trust and support.
More than 200 players are expected (juniors, amateurs, seniors, and students). Players from Vuselela FET and NWU students were invited for the Open Section. The first prize in the open section is R2 000. The entry fee is R200. The registration deadline is 18:00 on August 21.
The new leadership team was elected at the AGM on August 2. The President is Ogone Molaolwa, 1st Deputy President (Klerksdorp Zone) is Madeleine Badenhorst, 2nd Deputy President (Potchefstroom Zone) is Mr Pieter Pretorius, the secretary is Mari De Kock, Treasurer is Thapelo Mafabatho and Sabatha Matsitse an additional member.
With 26 clubs in good standing, expectations are high. The new executive has pledged to work with schools, communities, and the corporate sector to expand opportunities and nurture chess talent across the district.
Upcoming Tournaments are September 6 at Laerskool La Hoff, September 27 at Ferdies, Potchefstroom and October 18 at Volkies, Potchefstroom.
