Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The Executive Mayor, Cllr Fikile Mahlophe officially handed over new vehicles to the Department of Fire and Rescue Services. The new fleet includes a state-of-the-art fire engine and three Land Cruisers. The fire engine is equipped with modern features, including a built-in camera, an electronic step ladder, and powerful floodlights, enhancing the municipality’s ability to combat structural fires. The Land Cruisers will be utilised to respond to grass and veld fires.
The ceremony was attended by MMC for Public Safety, the Municipal Manager, the Director of Public Safety, councillors and officials.
The MM expressed gratitude to everyone present and recognised the commitment and support of the fire emergency personnel. She also highlighted the reopening of the Stilfontein Fire Station after 20 years as a significant achievement.
Cllr Mahlophe stressed the importance of prioritising the well-being of fire and rescue staff, advocating for regular counselling and debriefing sessions to ensure they remain mentally and emotionally fit to perform their vital duties. He commended the firefighters for their bravery and dedication to serving the community, protecting lives and property, and responding to emergencies.
