Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - The NWU has reached full capacity for its 2024 intake with no extra places available. More than 181 000 applications were received of which only 11 717 could be accommodated in terms of their approved enrollment targets.

“The NWU is proud of every Grade 12 learner who has completed their school careers successfully and want to wish them well in advance as they embark on their various endeavours. Unfortunately, we are just not able to accommodate any walk-ins who did not qualify during the application process last year,” said deputy registrar Prof Michael Temane.

He said walk-ins refer mostly to non-accepted students who still want to study but did not meet the criteria or did not apply for admission.

Prof Temane reminded unsuccessful applicants that another opportunity exists where they may register online on the Central Applications Clearing House (CACH) website.

The CACH sign-up service aims to provide unsuccessful applicants with access to career development services and where possible, an opportunity to access spaces still available within other higher education institutions.

The Registration and Orientation programme on the NWU campuses have kicked off already and will last until February 10. According to Louis Jacobs, spokes-person of the NWU, more than 1 000 first year students have already moved in to the several residences available on campus.

Don’t fall for this scam
The management is also reminding students to be cautious of unscrupulous characters on the campuses promising to facilitate your admission to the NWU. These criminal elements promise to admit students, in exchange of payment, even when their applications are unsuccessful. The university processes payments exclusively through its official financial systems. The banking details are available on the website and their Finance department can assist those who must pay for registration. Applications to study at the NWU are free. The police are investigating the scam.
