Klerksdorp Record, Orkney - Police in Orkney are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a brazen drive-by shooting in the early hours of Saturday morning that left one man dead and another motorist’s vehicle riddled with bullets.

The incident occurred at approximately 03:05 at the corner of Charlotte Maxeke and Chaucer Streets. The victim, identified by police only as 27-year-old Lesotho national, was shot multiple times while driving.

According to Lt Col Sam Tselenyane, the victim was driving a Toyota Tazz when the shooting took place. An eyewitness reported that a shooter opened fire on the vehicle.

After sustaining the fatal wounds, the driver’s car crashed into a street lamp pole. Authorities who arrived on the scene found a number of cartridges and a body lying on the ground next to his vehicle, which had the driver’s door open.

Klerksdorp Record was told that a female passenger fled the scene following the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unknown.

In a chilling escalation, the suspects also opened fire on a second vehicle driving past the crime scene. The driver, a female victim who was on her way to work, was not injured.

The perpetrators fled the scene in the black sedan, last seen heading in the direction of Khuma. No arrests have been made as yet, and police confirmed that the investigation is continuing.

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information to assist with the ongoing investigation into both the murder and attempted murder cases.
