Klerksdorp Record, Hartbeesfontein - A six year-old boy drowned in a dam on a farm in the Hartbeesfontein district over the long weekend.

Police divers retrieved the child’s body on Sunday morning March 23. Capt Mpho Manyoba, police spokesperson, said family members and neighbours searched for the boy who went swimming in the dam, but without success. “The owner of the farm informed the police and the divers were sent to the scene. They could not find anything and continued their search the following morning when the body was found.’’

According to Capt Mpho Manyoba, police spokesperson, successes were recorded after the execution of 5 562 actions: vehicle check points (VCP’s), stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, compliance inspections at second-hand dealers, scrapyards, recyclers, private security, firearm dealers, formal and infor-mal businesses, farms and mines.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - More resources are being poured into improving hospital services with Klerksdorp Hospital/Tshepong’s latest acquisition of a brand new brachy therapy unit.

This piece of equipment costs a total of R15 million. It was commissioned at the hospital’s Oncology Unit. This unit is state of the art and the first of its kind in South Africa.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A city wide taxi shutdown on Monday March 17 brought Klerksdorp and surrounding towns and townships to a standstill.

This shutdown called for by Santaco started at 05:00 and lasted until about 17:00. Taxi operators blocked all routes entering Klerksdorp, including the N12 which is one of the busiest national roads in the province. Orkney was completely cut off from the outside world for most of the day with all entrances and exits to the town blocked.

Volgens hulle is dit soos om ‘n lam ter slagting gelei te word as jy Binnelandse Sake besoek, “want jy wag maar net om aangeval te word’’.
