Lentswe, Orkney - The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality is steadfast on community skills development, particularly youth within its borders. Evidence to this is a novel partnership with the Department of Employment and Labour, and KST Multimedia, a skills development training institution focusing mainly in the media development space.

The three institutions are in a public private partnership to offer media skills to 200 youth from both City of Matlosana and JB Marks Local Municipalities.

On Monday August 25 young people from the City of Matlosana area received the first step of attaining media skills through an induction programme detailing how the project will unfold.

Official training classes start on Monday September 1 and will run for six months, ending in February 2026 for both groups from Matlosana (100) and JB Marks (100).

KST Multimedia will be responsible for the training in the disciplines of Studio Production, Photography, and Film & Television production.

Students will also receive a monthly stipend of R2 000 for the duration of the training period, with class schedules and localities designed to eliminate unnecessary traveling expenses.

“The Executive Mayor’s Office views this project as one of government’s initiatives that are playing a positive role in curbing the lack of skills and unemployment within the District.

Our hope is that after this skills program, these fortunate young people would have attained critical skills that may help them establish their own businesses in the media sector,” said Chief of Staff, Xolani Mndaweni during the induction programme held at the City of Matlosana Banquet Hall in Klerksdorp.
