Mafikeng Archdeaconry observes season of creation
NOORDWESTER – MAHIKENG - The Mafikeng Archdeaconry in the diocese of Kimberley and Kuruman recently hosted a gardening workshop as part of its Season of Creation celebrations on 29 September.
Well-known gardening and eco-champ Reotshepile Ngwenya, lead the workshop on Sustainable Gardening Practices.
Lichtenburg Police Officer appears in court for attempted murder
NOORDWESTER - LICHTENBURG - Thapelo Frederick Seiphehlo (26), appeared in the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 30 September for attempted murder, common assault and malicious damage to property. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Monday, 14 October. The Police officer, a Constable at Lichtenburg Police Station, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday, 29 September in Masutlhe Village in Mmabatho.
Former SGB Chairperson arrested for alleged corruption
NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG - Members of the Mahikeng-based Serious Corruption Investigation Unit arrested a 41-year-old suspect in Lichtenburg on Thursday, 26 September, for alleged corruption.
The suspect, who is the former School Governing Body (SGB) chairperson in Lichtenburg, allegedly solicited gratification from four complainants in exchange for administration clerk and teacher assistant posts at a primary school in Lichtenburg. Investigation revealed that the suspect was paid gratification by the complainants between 2022 and 2023 in order to secure them jobs at a local primary school.
St Mattews church celebrates Heritage Month
On 21 September, St Mattews Church at Mantsa village, outside Mahikeng, celebrated Heritage Month by planting trees at the church.
Reverend Rapakeng and other congregations of the Anglican church attended the ceremony.
