STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: A 56-year-old secondary school principal in Huhudi, Vryburg was arrested on Friday, 30 May 2025, by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit for alleged corruption.

The arrest follows an investigation into claims that the principal solicited gratification in exchange for a contract teaching post. The complainant reportedly paid R25 000 initially and a further R5 500 later. The complainant was subsequently employed. After further investigations, the suspect was charged with two counts of corruption. Boitumelo Cynthia Gopane, principal of Bopaganang Secondary School in Huhudi, Vryburg, appeared in the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 June 2025. She made an urgent bail application in the North West Division of the High Court on Sunday, 1 June 2025, and was released on R2 000 bail. Her case has been postponed to 9 June 2025.
