  • “Boozy Sundays” now legal in NW

    RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The introduction of the new North West Liquor Licensing Amendment Act, came into effect on 1 April, replacing the Liquor Act 27 of 1989 (legally ceasing on 31 March). 
    Under the updated regulations, liquor stores may now operate from 09:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays, and from 08:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and Saturdays. 
    Supermarkets that sell wine are permitted to trade from 08:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Saturday, and from 09:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays. 

     
  • Illegal miners appear in court

    RUSTENBURG HERALD - MOGWASE - In continuous efforts to address illegal mining and other related offences, a total of 21 accused appeared in the Brits and Mogwase Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday, 24 April, for contravention of the Immigration Act, 2002.
     The suspects, with ages ranging from 21 to 41, were apprehended during Vala Umgodi operations executed on Wednesday, 23 and Thursday, 24 April, in Witrandjie village near Sun City as well as Majakaneng village. Out of 21 accused, three were found guilty by the Brits Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of R2 000, wholly suspended. 

     
  • Police concerned about rape in NW

    RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In a statement issued by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West, authorities expressed deep concern in regard to the number of rape cases that have been reported across the province.
    These incidents have taken place in mostly townships, rural villages and on farms. 
    The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police, Major General Patrick Asaneng, has called on all community leaders, social activists, faith-based leaders, and gender and rights groups from across all communities to join hands to address what is clearly "a pandemic afflicting society".
