RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Rustenburg welcomes President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent acknowledgement of the collapse of municipal services during his oversight visit to the North West. The President has finally said what the DA has been warning about for years that municipalities in this province, including Rustenburg, are crippled by mismanagement, corruption, and failed service delivery under ANC rule.
For far too long, the Rustenburg community has endured days-long power and water outages, unsafe, neglected public spaces, broken feedback and communication systems, municipal teams left idle for hours or even days, waiting for basic equipment like testing machines and TLBs, Dr Grové says. “Right now, many areas remain without power and water, with DA Councillors struggling to get honest answers from the municipality on when services will be restored. Even more shocking, amidst this complete collapse, R20 million in grants was sent back to National Treasury, money that could and should have been used to improve Rustenburg’s failing infrastructure,”, she said.
Dr Grové continued to say: “In the days before the President’s visit, the municipality scrambled to make superficial improvements, like the clean-up of Bodenstein Park, which the DA has been fighting for more than five years. While welcome, these cosmetic fixes only prove how ANC municipalities act under political pressure, not in service of the people.
“The DA remains deeply concerned that these interventions are not part of a long-term plan. The people of Rustenburg deserve more than short-term window dressing. They deserve a municipality that delivers consistently, transparently, and accountably.”
