RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG – The Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) has issued a warning to members of the public about a scam that is doing the rounds.
In a statement issued on Monday, 15 September, the municipality said they had been made aware of fraudulent messages circulating, demanding payment into an Absa account (Account number 9400922043) under the name “RLM Creditors Control Revenue Department” and requesting proof of payment via WhatsApp or email.

“We wish to warn residents and businesses that this message is a scam. The Municipality will never request payments or proof of payment via WhatsApp. Official municipal payments can only be made through legitimate RLM banking channels as published on our official platforms and statements.
“If you receive such messages, do not respond, do not pay, and do not share your personal or banking details. Report any suspicious communication immediately to the Municipality at 014 590 311 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
