RUSTENBURG HERALD - MAHOBIESKRAAL - The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Sun City has arrested a 36-year-old male suspect for the alleged murder of a 32-year-old man, which occurred on Sunday night, 12 October, at Mahobieskraal near Mogwase.
According to reports, police received a call from Moses Kotane Hospital regarding a patient admitted with a gunshot wound. The patient was reportedly brought in by two men driving a green Fiat Siena.

Medical staff became suspicious after discovering that the names used to register the patient did not correspond with the identification document found in his possession. The matter was immediately reported to the police.
Upon arrival, police conducted a search and interview with the two men. During the process, a tip-off from hospital security led officers to inspect a nearby vehicle, where they discovered a 9mm pistol, three spent cartridges, 10 live rounds, a firearm permit, a competency certificate, and a black holster hidden underneath the vehicle. Both suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended.
Further investigation revealed that the group had earlier attended a wedding celebration in Chaneng and were en route to Mabeskraal. A witness confirmed that the suspect, seated in the back seat, had unintentionally discharged the firearm, fatally wounding the deceased seated in the front passenger seat. The suspect later confessed to the shooting and requested that the victim be taken to hospital. The 36-year-old suspect has been charged with murder and appeared before the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 15 October.
Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae commended the members for their vigilance and teamwork that led to the swift arrest.
“The diligence displayed by both the hospital staff and police members in this matter is commendable. “Their coordinated actions ensured that the suspect was quickly apprehended and vital evidence preserved. This incident also serves as a reminder that firearms must be handled responsibly at all times to prevent unnecessary loss of life,” said Brigadier Ntoagae.
