Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Ponatshego Ya Baswa Foundation successfully rolled out a back-to-school initiative at two primary schools in Klerksdorp, providing much-needed support to disadvantaged learners. The foundation visited Nozizwe Primary School in Khuma and Selang Thuto Primary School in Kanana, where it donated school shoes and toiletry hampers to a total of 120 selected learners.

Some of the learners arrived at school without proper footwear and were able to wear their new school shoes immediately after receiving them. The gesture brought visible joy and relief to the pupils, many of whom face daily challenges related to poverty.

Principals from both schools, together with members of the School Governing Bodies (SGBs), expressed their appreciation for the donations, noting the positive impact on learners’ dignity and morale.

Speaking during the handover at Selang Thuto Primary School, Billy Phakoe, a Life Sciences teacher, highlighted hygiene as a persistent challenge at the school. He welcomed the donation of toiletry hampers, describing them as a meaningful and practical intervention that addresses a real and ongoing need among learners.

Founder of the Ponatshego Ya Baswa Foundation, Kelebogile Madilola, said the organisation plans to make this initiative a core project going forward.

“There is a serious need for hygiene products and school shoes among learners. These are basic necessities that play a big role in boosting confidence, dignity, and readiness to learn,” Madilola said.

The foundation aims to expand the project to reach more schools and learners in the future, reinforcing its commitment to supporting education and child wellbeing in disadvantaged communities.
