Lentswe, Klerksdorp - With Women’s Day celebrated this weekend, Thandi Dondolo-Phalatse thought now is a good time as ever for women to take charge of their health. She says you can make a significant difference to your energy, health and sense of wellbeing by living a lifestyle that is compatible with good health.
Science and medication have a clear understanding of the causes of many chronic diseases.
“Many women still fail to do the obvious, perhaps due to information overload, confusion, poor access to accurate information, conflicting medical and media reporting or time constraints during consultations with doctors. Ideally, you would like to ensure that you never get ill. This is not always possible, but much is within your control.
Prevention is more than merely the avoidance of illness. It consists of tiers of care and intervention,’’ shares Thandi.
Screening and testing
If someone already has an illness, or features of an illness, the doctor will investigate with tests (blood tests, ultrasound, Pap smears, x-rays, scopes) to confirm a diagnosis. When the same tests are done on healthy people to establish whether they have a condition or illness that is still asymptomatic, it is called “screening.”
Whether you are in your thirties and planning to get pregnant, in your mid-fifties and dealing with menopause or 65 and hoping to maintain your health, strength and vitality, are important fundamentals.
