Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The police have their hands full during the winter break with hundreds arrested all over the province last week. The weekly Joint Law Enforcement operations conducted under Operation Shanela II, have resulted in the arrest of suspects and the seizure of illegal contrabands, including illegal firearms, a variety of drugs, liquor and dangerous weapons.
Cops in court over stolen cigarettes
Lentswe, Potchefstroom - Eight police officers were arrested for the theft of thousands of illegal cigarettes. The police officers of which five are attached to the Potch Flying Squad were arrested on Tuesday July 15 by the Hawks. Their arrest emanate from an incident in November last year where they allegedly stopped a truck near Ventersdorp.
Water shortages close Sassa offices
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Sassa offices in the city were forced to close early this week due to water shortages and the DA has called for urgent action to restore services. The DA has written to the MEC for Social Development, Susanna Dantjie, asking her to step in immediately to ensure grant beneficiaries are not left stranded.
Illegal immigrant convicted for murder
Lentswe, Stilfontein - A foreigner who murdered his 29-year-old Khuma girlfriend in an act of domestic violence, was sentenced to 20 years behind bars. The Stilfontein Regional Court sentenced Aaron Mateta (23), a Lesotho national, last week for killing his girlfriend, Mpho Gift Mphatsoe, on October 12, 2024.
Debit orders suspended
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - If you pay your municipal account by debit order, your payment will not be processed this month. The municipality announced the “temporary suspension of debit order payments for municipal accounts”. According to Thembi Mongale, debit order transactions will not be processed this month due to the closure of the municipality’s financial systems for year-end procedures.They appeal to residents to either pay by EFT, bank deposit, Easypay, Pay@ or in person at the municipality. “Normal debit order processing will resume next month,” said Mongale.
