Lentswe, Leeudoringstad - Eskom introduced the Smart Meter Load Limiting initiative by installing meters at Kgakala Township in Leeudoringstad. This initiative is an alternative to the early stages of load-shedding namely stages 1 to 4, when the system is constrained. Load limiting will limit customers on the normally available capacity of 60 Amps to 10 Amps, however, it still provides adequate power supply to appliances such as televisions, decoders, lights, refrigerators, Wi-Fi routers and security systems.
New home for destitute family
Lentswe, Jouberton - The Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana, Cllr James Tsolela handed over a newly-refurbished house to the Jas family in Jouberton on Monday February 19. The Jas family’s house burned down sometime last year and with the help of ward Councillor Tshepang Kgwasi, they requested the municipality to assist.
CBD flat burglar behind bars
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A burglar who terrorised residents and was linked to three separate cases that included housebreaking and house robbery, will be locked away for 27 years. Thapelo Francis Sephiri (27) was sentenced in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday February 13. He was arrested in June last year bringing his reign as the notorious CBD flat burglar to an end.
The court heard that Sephiri committed his first house breaking between October 20 and 25 2021, when he burgled a flat in the CBD. Situated on the first floor, he forced entry through a window. He then got away with electrical equipment, clothing and jewellery.
Hawks officer arrested
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The investigating officer in the corruption case against the Matlosana Municipality’s CFO was arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from her.
Lt Col Elias Ledwaba from the Klerksdorp Hawks was caught in a sting operation that was conducted in Silver Lakes, Pretoria. It is alleged that he arranged for Mercy Phetla to pay him R100 000 “for the case against her to disappear’’.
Diarise the election date: May 29
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the 2024 National and Provincial Election will take place on May 29. It falls on a Wednesday. This decision was announced by the Presidency on Tuesday February 20. The day has not been declared a public holiday yet.
Furthermore, the President convened a meeting with all nine provincial premiers and the IEC to discuss the state of readiness for the General elections.
