City suffers R1 billion loss
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Auditor General questions the viability of the municipality as a going concern after suffering a financial loss close to R1 billion.
The Auditor-General’s annual report for the financial year 2022/23 was tabled at a council meeting last week.
Cllr Johannes le Grange, DA caucus leader, commented by saying the DA has for years consistently raised concerns over the administration’s reluctance to rationalise the budget in line with Treasury guidelines.
Mine dumps may hide gold
Lentswe, Stilfontein - A new project to rehabilitate mine dumps in the area is gathering pace.
A company called Mercy Renewal Property Management (Pty) Ltd has applied for environmental authorisation and prospecting rights with bulk sampling for gold ore, aggregate and associated minerals. A public meeting will be held at Ngwenya Hotel on Thursday February 8 where interested and affected parties can participate and comment on the project. The meeting is scheduled for 11:00.
Future Sassa payment dates
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - SASSA is responsible for distributing grants and allowances to disadvantaged people who require financial assistance in South Africa. At the time of reading this, the payments for February have already been paid.
Boost for local SMMEs
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Matlosana Municipality launched a local industrial development programme to empower local SMMEs. The municipality in collaboration with SALGA North West and Mbuso Management Solutions, supported by Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) launched the programme at Itireleng Learning Centre in Vaal Reefs on Friday February 2.
