Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The North West Department of Health is promoting February as Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Month by rolling out the first round of the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) vaccination until February 20 in all primary schools across the province.
HPV is a viral infection that is transmitted between people through skin-to-skin contact. The infection occurs when the virus enters the body, usually through a cut or sexual contact including vaginal, anal, and oral sex.
Police have their hands full
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Criminals are active in the province, but they have to deal with the long arm of the law. This is evident in Operation Shanela that resulted in the apprehension of 1 009 suspect in the province. These arrests took place between February 5 and 11 throughout the province.
Zamas sentenced, goods confiscated
Lentswe, Stilfontein - Two groups of illegal miners appeared in the local magistrate’s court to face the long arm of the law. The police also confiscated various good destined for zama-zamas.
Eighteen illegal miners were sentenced in the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court to 120 days imprisonment on Friday February 9, for contravening the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act.
Innocent until proven guilty
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Matlosana Municipality CFO will stay in her position despite being criminally charged with corruption.
In a council meeting on Tuesday February 13 the ANC, supported by the EFF, defended the decision not to suspend Mercy Phetla, saying she is innocent until proven guilty. Cllr Gerhard Strydom said the fact that she is standing trial for corruption means that according to the regulations, there is reasonable cause that an act of misconduct has been committed. The DA called for the special council meeting proposing that she be suspended from her position and barred from entering the municipal building until the criminal investigation is finalised.
World Day of Prayer for Women
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The 94th World Prayer Day for Women that is happening next month will be held at the Reformed Church Morester.
This annual event where women all over the world gather to pray, will be held on Friday March 1 at 10:00. The church is situated at 10 Charl de Klerk Street, Klerksdorp. Women of all denominations in the Kosh Area are invited to attend the service.
The theme this year is: “I beg you... Bear with one another in Love”. The country of focus, already selected 7 years ago by the international committee, is: Palestine.
