GEMSBOK-POFADDER: This year’s Khai-Ma Career Expo once again welcomed hundreds of enthusiastic learners from the region, but with a powerful new addition designed to help them take charge of their futures.
Thanks to the support of Aggeneys Solar, the event introduced an interactive vision board activity, offering learners more than just inspiration: a tangible tool to imagine, plan, and pursue their goals.
Guided by mentors, learners worked in small groups to reflect on their strengths, interests, and aspirations.
They then created vibrant vision boards that connected their personal dreams to real-world career paths. The activity sparked deep engagement, with educators noting that many learners were thinking seriously about their futures for the first time.
One Grade 10 lear-ner proudly shared her board, filled with images of doctors, medical tools, and a stethoscope. She spoke of her dream to become the first doctor in her family, driven by the lack of healthcare in her community. Her board included motivational quotes, and she explained, “I want this board to remind me why I can’t give up.”
This newly introduced learning area, regular features at the event included key stakeholders and professionals across a wide range of fields coming together to share insights about their careers and the education and training necessary for success.
“We wanted to give learners a way to take all the inspiration from the Career Expo and make it personal. A vision board turns ideas into something they can see every day, a visual reminder of their dreams, values, and goals,” explained Jeremy Prins, Social Performance Coordinator at Aggeneys Solar project.
“Our aim was to create a safe space, guided by mentors, prompting reflective questions, to have learners move from the mindset of “I can’t,” to “I can”, and hopefully one day, “I can also help others,” he added.
This year’s successful expo was implemented in collaboration with other local Independent Power Producers in the Khai-Ma municipal district, sectoral government partners, and local NGOs, welcoming over 500 learners across Boesmanland High School (Pofadder), Aggeneys High School (Aggeneys), and Aggeneys International Academy (Aggeneys).
