Elderly farm workers attacked and one murdered
RUSTENBURG HERALD - SWARTRUGGENS - The Maizey family of Papknop farm had to deal with the devastating news of their elderly farm workers being attacked, bound, and one murdered earlier this week.
The eldery caretaker couple, Oupa Maseloane (71) and Elizabeth Peolwane (61) had to deal with four attackers on the morning of Monday, 10 June around 6am. The suspects trespassed onto the property, found the workers in the house, where they were attacked and beaten until they eventually gave up the keys to other parts of the property.
Public warned against vehicle theft

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - About 644 suspects were apprehended for various crimes in the province during Operation Shanela, conducted by police and other law enforcement agencies between Monday, 27 May 2024 and Sunday, 02 June 2024.
The suspects were amongst others, arrested for rape, murder, assault GBH, malicious damage to property, burglary residential and business premises, possession of drugs, theft out of /from motor vehicles and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
More than 200 mineworkers in illegal “sit-in” at Sibanye’s Kroondal Mine
RUSTENBURG HERALD - KROONDAL - Multinational mining and metals processing group Sibanye-Stillwater reported on Tuesday, June 4, that more than 200 employees remained underground in an illegal sit-in at its Kroondal mine.
The group said the sit-in started on the morning of June 3, with morning shift employees, including contractors, at the Kwezi shaft. Later, the night shift at the K6 shaft was also disrupted, with more than 250 people gathering in a central waiting place on the surface.

Skeletal remains found by patrol at Tlhabane Stadium
Members of a Ward 10 patrol came across skeletal remains including a femur and a skull as they were patrolling the area around Yizo Yizo just off Tlhabane Stadium during their rounds last week. The collection of bones seems to be that of a male, but was badly decomposed when found in a drainage system towards the industrial area.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - NORTH WEST - Operation Shanela that was conducted between Monday, 20 May, until Sunday, 26 May 2024, resulted in the apprehension of 1 123 suspects in the province.
Police, supported by other law enforcement agencies, executed a total of 6 170 actions that included the searching of 2 003 persons, 1 569 vehicles, 893 high visible patrols, ten roadblocks and the inspection of 393 liquor outlets and 29 second-hand goods dealers.
