Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The city’s northern suburbs are suffering from continuous power cuts leaving residents fuming.

Inge Wilken, DA Cllr of Ward 39, said residents and businesses are now paying the price for poor governance, and years of neglect.

“These areas are plagued by recurring and prolonged power outages. The consequences are far-reaching, disrupting economic activity, harming businesses and placing households, frail-care facilities, and vulnerable residents at risk due to an unreliable electricity supply,” she said.

What makes it more frustrating, is that electrical teams are currently operating only between 08:00 and 22:00. This means that faults that occur overnight frequently remain unresolved for extended periods, unnecessarily prolonging outages and leaving residents unnecessarily without power.

Cllr Wilken requested the municipality to become more proactive with their maintenance strategy, and target infrastructure upgrades to ensure reliability of electricity supply. She blamed the ANC for these ongoing failures, saying it is holding Matlosana back.

“Reliable electricity is not a luxury but a basic service. Communities in Matlosana deserve leadership that can deliver functional infrastructure and dependable service provision.”

No communication about these constant power outages have been received from the municipality.
