Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - North West premier, Lazarus Mokgosi, welcomed the guests and he was in a good spirit at the City on a Hill church where the province’s matric results were announced.
In his welcoming speech he announced that the new Bela Act will ensure access for all to free basic education and that Gr R will become compulsory for all students. “Education should be universal, equal and free,” he said.
DA says there is room for improvement
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - North West retained its fourth place in the top performing provinces with an improvement from the class of 2023 by 5.9%.
However, the DA is concerned by the decline in the uptake of gateway subjects, specifically physical sciences, accounting, and mathematics. “We are encouraged by the announcement by Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, that she will prioritise efforts towards improving early childhood education and foundational phase support which will capacitate young learners with the language and numeracy skills required for these subjects in later grades, which will improve overall academic performance,’’ said DA spokesperson, CJ Steyl.
Matric results: NW has 87.5% pass rate
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The official matric results for the province were announced in the city on Tuesday January 14.
The City on a Hill Church was bursting at the seams when the proud MEC of Education, Ntsetsao Motsumi, announced that 87.5% of matriculants passed. This is a huge improvement from the class of 2023 with an 81.6% pass rate.

Hulle het hulself aan die polisie oorhandig nadat ‘n selfoonvideo van die messteek voorval wat op 16 Desember by Hanscombe Haven gebeur het, wyd op sosiale media versprei is.
Terrorism charges land man in court
Klerksdorp Record, Lichtenburg - A man accused of terror financing was due back in court this week.
Ziyahd Hoorzook (35) appeared in the local magistrate’s court earlier this month and his case was postponed to Wednesday January 15 for a further bail hearing.
He currently stays in Gauteng, but stayed in the NW when he allegedly committed the crime back in 2017.
