STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The Department of Health, in collaboration with the South African Association of Paediatric Hematology and Oncology (SAAPHO), the National Cancer Registry (NCR), CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC), and the World Health Organization (WHO), invites South Africans to come together in support of children, adolescents, and their families affected by childhood cancer during September’s International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Childhood cancer, while often seen as rare, is a major health issue and one of the top causes of disease-related deaths among children worldwide. The WHO reports approximately 400,000 new cases annually, with around 1,000 of these cases occurring in South Africa. Locally, leukemia is the most frequently diagnosed childhood cancer, according to the National Cancer Registry.
Buxton community unites to clean up popular tourist site
STELLALANDER-TAUNG: On Saturday, 30 August 2025, the community of Buxton, Taung and surrounding areas came together for a successful clean-up campaign at Thomeng, popularly known as “Small Heaven.”
The initiative, led by local youth, was self-funded, with community members contributing what resources they could to protect and restore this important tourist attraction.
Learners showcase cultural knowledge at Heritage Education Programme in Vryburg
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District recently hosted the provincial rounds of the Heritage Education School Outreach Programme (HESOP) in Vryburg under the Naledi Local Municipality.
The two-day event, held from Friday, 15 August to Saturday, 16 August 2025, brought together eight schools from across the North West’s four districts.

STELLALANDER-TLAKGAMENG: William Harvey van Harvey Cattle Ranches in die Tlakgameng-boeregemeenskap het Donderdag, 28 Augustus, die hoogste eer ontvang toe hy as AgriNW se Jongboer van die Jaar 2025 aangewys is.
Harvey sê die toekenning was vir hom ’n groot verrassing: “Die ander twee finaliste is fantastiese jongboere met indrukwekkende bedrywe. Dit is ’n eer om saam met hulle genoem te word,” het hy nederig vertel. Vir Harvey is beesboerdery ’n erfenis wat diep in sy bloed loop. Hy is grootgemaak in ’n familie waar boerdery meer as net ’n beroep was, dit was ’n leefstyl. Sy pa Keith, oupa Willy en oom Neil Harvey was nie net mentors nie, maar rolmodelle van eerlikheid, goedheid en harde werk wat hom die pad van boer laat kies het.
