Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp – A registration drive for tuck shop owners kicked off in Khuma this week. The Local Economic Development Directorate and the Public Safety Directorate of the City of Matlosana launched the registration drive at the Khuma Community Hall. The initiative aims to formalize the operations of tuck shops while educating owners on critical health and safety practices. The drive is part of a larger strategy to promote food safety, protect public health, and build trust between tuck shop owners and their customers, said Tebogo Ramone, acting spokesperson of the municipality.
Six more zama-zamas surface at Margaret shaft
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Up until Saturday December 7, a total of 1420 illegal miners resurfaced at various abandoned mine shafts and Margaret mine shaft in Stilfontein. Eight bodies in total were recovered at Buffelsfontein nr 11 Shaft.
Police in overdrive before Christmas
VKlerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Operation Shanela, part of the Safer Festive Season Operations, was conducted last week and 1 299 suspects were apprehended in NW of which 617 were arrested during suspect raiding operations. These operations took place between December 2 and 8. “Police, supported by other law enforcement agencies, executed a total of 5 399 actions that included amongst others the inspection of 56 licensed liquor premises, 77 second hand dealers, compliance inspections of firearms Institutions (non-official and official institutions), 745 inspections at hospitality and retail shops, 84 informal businesses to ensure labour law compliance as well as farms and mines.
Prisons filled with drugs and weapons
Klerksdorp Rekord, Klerksdorp –The DA put pressure in Parliament on the Minister of Correctional Services, Pieter Groenewald, to reveal the scale of contraband in South African prisons, demonstrating that this scourge has reached crisis levels. Groenewald shocked with stats saying “in the past twelve months alone, nearly a thousand kilograms of drugs have been confiscated in South African Correctional Centres.
City warns about fireworks
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The City of Matlosana is ready to issue fines in accordance with municipal bylaws for those irresponsible with fireworks. This week the municipality issued a warning to residents against the use of illegal fireworks. Anyone found in contravention of the city regulations will face fines in accordance with the municipal Nuisances and Public Behaviour By-law and the National Control of Explosives/Fireworks Act.
