Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp – A registration drive for tuck shop owners kicked off in Khuma this week. The Local Economic Development Directorate and the Public Safety Directorate of the City of Matlosana launched the registration drive at the Khuma Community Hall. The initiative aims to formalize the operations of tuck shops while educating owners on critical health and safety practices. The drive is part of a larger strategy to promote food safety, protect public health, and build trust between tuck shop owners and their customers, said Tebogo Ramone, acting spokesperson of the municipality.

These operations took place between December 2 and 8. “Police, supported by other law enforcement agencies, executed a total of 5 399 actions that included amongst others the inspection of 56 licensed liquor premises, 77 second hand dealers, compliance inspections of firearms Institutions (non-official and official institutions), 745 inspections at hospitality and retail shops, 84 informal businesses to ensure labour law compliance as well as farms and mines.

This week the municipality issued a warning to residents against the use of illegal fireworks. Anyone found in contravention of the city regulations will face fines in accordance with the municipal Nuisances and Public Behaviour By-law and the National Control of Explosives/Fireworks Act.
